An Exercise in Gratitude and Thanks

Hi everyone!  In today's heavy world it is easy to get caught up in the gloom and darkness.  In the spirit of the long Thanksgiving week-end, I thought it would be nice to pause and think about gratitude.  Most everyone can say they are grateful for family or health, but I want you to dig deep.  Many of us can be guilty of seeing too much of what isn't right versus what gifts we have in front of us.

I challenge you to think of 10 things (aside from family and health which I'm always thankful for 💜).  I'll start with my list and I encourage you all to share as well:

1.  It was a long process, but I'm thankful to finally be out of the city and moving to the next chapter of my life.
2.  My kids are thriving in the country with good grades and friends.  Their futures are full of potential.
3.  I'm thankful for the people I've met living in the country.  Here the neighbors go to each others houses, have bon fires and call each other when they've made huge dinners.  We are more social living in the woods than we ever were living in a packed neighborhood.  It's a true community and I love the real people we friended.
4.  My oldest bought her first home and I am thankful she was able to do so in our current economic situation (and she is 12 minutes from mom which is a bonus!).
5.  I'm thankful to have a part-time job in the local school system where I can see my kids, meet teachers and integrate with the community.
6.  I'm thankful the garden did great, I've added more recipes to my recipe book and worked toward more food preservation.  My pepper jelly is a new family staple. :-)
7. I'm thankful my husband understands and enjoys all things techy.  We are working toward being off grid by next summer.
8. I'm thankful for the "Focus Sessions" blog community that has grown over the years.  I've met some amazing people and developed some great friendships over the years.  This started over a decade ago as an experiment.  I was unsure if anyone would even find me or care about my posts, and it has grown into something truly beautiful.  I've definitely been blessed.
9.  In our current economy with inflation and costs I'm thankful we are ok.  Like most folks, there are things on our wish list, but we have everything I need.  I am very grateful for that as I know that may not be true for everyone.
10.  I'm thankful that my journey has come full circle and led me back to God and the words in the bible.  Even though I still question some things, I think there are some hidden truths there that I've enjoyed exploring.  I've had some very though hurdles to cross in the past year, and reading in the bible has given me the words I've needed to hear.

In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. - 1 Thessalonians 5:18

Here is to a Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!  Have fun making your lists.

Blessings, Lynn

Seems like a wonderful neighborhood to be part of!
In my neighborhood people mostly stick to themselves. The only times when neighbors would talk to eachother around here would be if they want to borrow something or complain about something. Especially the latter one. I guess maybe Americans are more social and outgoing than people are in Sweden.

Do you barbeque over the bonfires as well once the flames have subsided into a steady glow?

What kind of job do you have in the school system, teaching psychic development? I guess not but it would be awesome if that was part of the curriculum.

I guess I'm grateful for a lot of spiritual experiences that I've had, and some profound insights about the universe and life itself that destiny has bestowed upon me.

I am grateful to you Lynn, for the wisdom, kindness and insight you've shown through your blog. You have been right about so much, and I have seen little-to-no shadow stuff from you, which almost everyone has to some degree. Your children are lucky to have you as a mother (or chose you wisely!) I am so glad your move has manifested into such a fulfilling and loving community. You deserve it. I can't move and have had to come to terms with a lot about where I live and realistic prospects for the future. I'm cheering on everyone who successfully follows their bliss.

I am grateful for everyone online who has been part of the global awakening. We spent so many years asking "When?" "Soon!" And now here we are. I am grateful I made it through this year - so far - in one piece without being sucked into the horrible mass of fear and swirling hatreds. I am grateful for all the truthtellers, whistleblowers, and the mystics, writers and spiritual mentors through history and the present day who have guided me onto the calm shore to observe it all. I feel prepped!

Enlightened One, I think I saw a headline about a Swedish town that had started a campaign to get people to say hello to each other. I got the impression people were surprised and delighted to have broken the ice with their neighbours. Perhaps it will spread through the country?

Oh, and I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving. My deccys are going up early this year. Happy holidays everyone!

@Kalamata Look

I doubt that saying hello to your neighbor will become a thing in Sweden.
There's even a Swedish reality show about neighbor disputes. Sweden is an extremely individualistic society where each minds his own business. But at the same time it is collectivistic in the sense that people are wary of expressing opinions that might go against the collective consensus.

Thanks so much for all the sharing and positivity.

@enlightened one: We do cook on the fire often. It does make a difference. I am a work as a sub in the schools and love it. So far band class was my favorite! :-) I've done lots of classes though, and it is nice to see all the kids.

Hope you all have a great Thanksgiving!

@Lynn "sub"? What does that mean? Please explain. Never heard of band classes before either. I'm curious to know more about this, if you don't mind me asking.

@enlightened one: I substitute when teachers are sick or have vacation, field trips, etc. When the regular teacher isn't there they will call me and if available I go in. I get to see a lots of different grades and classes that way. Band class is the music class for the high school grade. It was really fun!

@Lynn
Sounds like a varied job where you always get to experience something new each day! Are you musically trained? I figure you'd have to be to teach band classes? Do all high school students have band classes or only those studying an art/aesthetics program? What do you do during these classes? The name would have you think the whole class plays music together as a band?
