Elderberry Syrup - The Recipe I Use

With manipulated weather, and the hot, cold, hot, then freezing weather upon us, this feels like a good time for this post.

The organic change of the seasons, combined with the an occasional (intentional) extreme weather creates havoc on our systems. Just like the oil in a car changes viscosity, our blood shifts with the weather, specifically the hot and cold.  Our systems get used to a constant, and as seasons change we have to readjust leaving us more vulnerable to illness.  Spring and fall give us a chance to prepare, but in more recent years we don't really experience a true spring and fall.  We just jump from summer to winter (sometimes seemingly both in the same day).  Yes, I know the clymate people want to say it is due to that which is false.  It is these evil people playing with the HAARP machine like entitled kids causing distress.

Winter also has it's issues in that we have less vitamin D.  We are inside, covered up and the skies are more hazy.  Additionally, the sun is sanitizing, so less daylight is less time the sun has to do it's job on things as simple as door knobs, grocery carts, playgrounds, and basically anything outside.

Then you get people convinced they need the "shot" for flu, shingles, pneumonia and the beer bug.  The immune system doesn't know what do to with all this, and the result many times is an illness.  Our bodies are divine and can ward off most anything with ease, but when the immune system is overtaxed, especially if the cause is foreign toxins, it takes a little time to mitigate what is going on.

What to do? With any type of sickness, start taking vitamin C.  Your immune system needs the support.

If you feel you're getting the flu (and check out the pic I chose for the post), take Elderberry Syrup right away.  Most times you can fight off illness before it grabs ahold.  I'm sharing my recipe (to the right) that has been successful within my family for many years.  Feel free to print off the pic and share.  (If you have trouble reading it, just send me an email).

If you feel it is a cold, in addition to the vitamin C and Elderberry Syrup, herbs such as cinnamon (great for the blood), garlic (great for the gut) and oregano (natural antibiotic) are very helpful.  Drink lots of fluids to help flush the body as well.

If you think you have a virus, in addition to the Elderberry Syrup, take zinc with the vitamin C because zinc helps to inhibit viral replication.

Lastly, if you are very sick and just cannot seem to get better, you might do an intermittent fasting (Stay away from sugar- like NO sugar)  with a long fasting window, or do a two to three day fast where your body hits autophagy.   When the body doesn't have to process food, it's resources go into healing mode.

Here is to a healthy you and healthy winter season!

Blessings,
Lynn

Thanks Lynn! I just learned about Elderberry syrup from an Eagle Scout nephew who said it was one of the oldest medicines known a year ago and it really does pick you up when you are feeling off or low energy. I've used it sparingly because of the little bottles and price, but love the idea of making your own, where it's fresher and you can use it more frequently when sick or for prevention, not to mention not having it around when you need it. I would also add Selenium on that list of preventative supplements as an antiviral and other benefits. Also thanks to your previous advice, I'm eating three ap pri cot seeds each morning before coffee.

I have a quart of Elderberry syrup(tincture) in my fridge. Also have Elderberry dried to make more thru out the year. My area is rich in resources to make a lot of homeopathic remedies.
When I had the ick in Oct 2021, I fasted for a week and a half, improved faster than my friend who was suffering too.

Where I live the elderberries have ripened unevenly with some bunches fully ripe and others still green. So I found some trees of an unknown kind with plentiful berries on. And it turned out to be guelder-rose. So for the next batch I'm gonna add an equal amount of guelder-rose berries to the elderberries. They are poisonous raw, but I think they are fine to consume when heated. They have a refreshing tart flavor. It is native to Europe, but is naturalised in north America, and there is an American subspecies called "American cranberrybush".

By the way, a total solar Eclipse will cross the entire US from coast to coast on April 8th 2024. It will pass very close to Washington DC. I wonder how this will affect the Biden administration and the 2024 election?

@Robert: I'm glad I could be of help. Yes, the apr- seeds are great for the B vitamins. The Elderberry Syrup is super easy to do, and I just leave it in the fridge.

@RealCousinIT: Fasting is wonderful when you are ill. It can make a big difference. Glad it worked for you.

@enlightened one: Interesting... thanks for sharing! As far as the eclipse- that will be interesting... I'll need to think on that..

@Lynn
You're welcome! By the way, I just looked at a more detailed map, and it looks like Cincinnati is at the southern edge of the band where the Eclipse reaches 100% coverage of the sun. In Washington DC it's 90%.

@emlightened one: That is interesting... I'm not too far from there.
