Does sage really cleanse the air in your home? I knew people used it and it was a tradition that came from Native Americans. I recently read that it actually does purify the air and that it isn't just spiritual. Is that true?

If sage is a good thing, is there a certain kind to get and how do you do it? For example, I usually buy something called white sage, and they sell sage in kits with an abalone shell and a feather. It seems like a pleasant ritual.
Also, does sage spray work, or is that a gimmick?
Finally, I was also wondering about the properties of Palo Santo wood and if it is like sage or if it is different. I have been told it is more for bringing in good intentions rather than cleansing. I like it a little better than sage, since it has a sort of sweet smell.
Thank you!

Smudging is such a great tool for clearing negative energy. I would love if we could collectively envision the Washington Monument as a giant column of smoking sage that's cleaning up that swamp!
ReplyDeleteLove your comments, Robert! 😂
ReplyDelete@Robert: I agree with @Weeze- love it!
ReplyDeleteThis Friday May 6th, at 12 noon Eastern time, why don't we all visualize the Washington Monument as a giant smoking bunch of Sage that will cleanse all the corruption out of the US Capitol. If enough people focus on this it would work wonders!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much <3 This was my question and I have learned more today than I knew before about sage, and how to use it or palo santo and how it works. Also thank you for the info on the spray, I always wondered if it worked as well. I appreciate you, Lynn! Also, I am with you, Robert - let's do it!
ReplyDeleteI use white sage and Palo Santo (in smoke form) to cleanse my home, but I use white sage in spray form to spray anything new coming into my home (homewares and clothing).
ReplyDeleteI try not to buy secondhand clothing (because I'm very sensitive to other people's energy), but if I do buy something that's come from something brand new but has come from another person's home (e.g., via a marketplace site), then I smoke-smudge it, leave it outside for a bit, then spray it, and bring it inside.
The spray lacks the burning action which I think is an important element in the cleansing effect. The burning itself (turning solid plant matter into smoke) is symbolic of heavy energies transforming into lighter energies. This symbolism in itself helps focus the mind on the right intent.
ReplyDelete@Robert: I love this idea. That is fantastic!
ReplyDelete@goldenrainbowasana: You are most welcome!
@Blackbird: Great advice, thanks! Do you have a clothesline? You may want to hang your things outside for a day or two before bringing them in and see if that makes a difference (with regards to used stuff). Moonlight is amazing for clearing. Even used objects (not just clothes) can hold onto energies.
@enlightened one: I totally resonate with this. Well said.
Hey Lynn, I just showed this to my sister and I found I had a new question. Which is the feminine, cedar or sage?
ReplyDeleteSage is so strong to me that it feels like it could be masculine, but maybe it’s the reverse.
Was just curious about that. Also, can you just buy cedar like you would Palo santo wood?
Thank you!
