Tunnel / Cavern System Under the Atlantic

Q. This was in a letter sent to a geologist in 1947.

Miss [Opal] Kemp had written that “a group of us are planning to visit the east this summer and wish to explore caverns known as ‘the East Caves of Syracuse.’ These caves are said to be the western entrance to the subterranean passage which extended under the Atlantic Ocean to the British Isles. Part of the cavern system has collapsed–one as recently has 1928–so that it is now impossible to travel in them. However, the entrances remain intact.”  

How did she learn about this in the first place?  What are these caverns? Thank you!

A.  There are two parts of this question I want to address.  The first is Opal herself and knowledge of the cave system. 

I get that she simply heard a rumor, and was not sure if it was real or not.  She was trying to allude she knew something to get a response.  She was hopeful there was indeed a cave system that extended into or under the Atlantic, but was not for certain.  She heard tales of others that had been there and others that had seen it, but weren't sure if it was truth or just a tale.

The second part of this was to look at if these caves exist and how far they go.  I do see a cave system that has an entrance in the Syracuse area.  I see that there are several cave systems that originate northeastern part of the country (not just NY).  Some are short cave systems, and others go on for miles.  

What I really want to know is just how far westward they go?   I do see they extend down and west about ten miles and then they fill with water.  They look very unsafe and unstable.  I see that they used to go further, but doing some kind of war/weather manipulation event they were destroyed (intentionally).  I cannot connect to them reaching or attaching to the British Isle area.  During this manipulated weather event I see they lost around five miles, so at one time they went about 15 miles west.

The most disturbing things about these tunnels are the creatures living in them.  I get that reptilian type beings reside there.  They look light colored and very clammy skin.  They tend to come out at night and feed, and get the areas around the cave entrances have had many mysterious deaths.  The energy of these caves is very dark and ominous.  I wouldn't suggest an exploration.
