[Spoiler Alert]
A. I'm not sure what I expected, but all the hype I thought this movie would be something that really left me thinking or impacted me in some way. There are some big name actors, which gave me hope, but honestly I was very disappointed. In the end this movie reinforced my thought that if you wanted to see something good, you have to go back to the oldies.
In the opening credits I was surprised to see that Mr. and Mr. Obama were the producers. This made me pause and initially prepared me for a typical Netflix agenda driven movie, and in that regard it did not disappoint.
The storyline was really odd. A quick synopsis of this story revolved around this lady, played by Julia Roberts and her family. She woke up one day and decided to take the family on vacation. They got an Air B&B and stayed in a really nice home.
In the middle of their first night there a black man showed up with his daughter and wanted to stay with them. Apparently he had a well connected work client that alluded to the fact that something was going to happen, and when all communications shut down, he heeded that warning. In an instant there were no phones and no internet. The reason he chose the house Julia was at was because this specific house was actually his house.
Here is what doesn't make sense. They paint Julia to be some crazy white lady making over the top snarky comments to the black guy and his daughter through the first half of the movie. They exaggerated this whole race thing through racist dialogue between Julia and this man and daughter. It was forced, odd and unnecessary in the grand scheme of the story.
Then, midway through the movie Julia decided to have a drink with the guy, they talk, she apologies for her behavior, they start to slow dance and entertain the idea of having sex. They end up not going that route though due to the fact they are both married. It was completely overacted and just weird.
The daughter, even though nothing was never said or insinuated told her dad that Julia's husband, who was a teacher, wanted to sleep with her. Granted, the wardrobe department must have forgotten to give this poor child a bra for much of the movie, but the guy kept his morals and didn't even entertain this teen's projection of him. It was very strange to assume this white guy, must want to sleep with this teen girl.
There were other oddities, but I will save that for you. If you've seen this movie, please share your thoughts. Perhaps I missed some bigger point because I was distracted with an overall terrible movie.
Blessings,
Lynn

I'm watching "King of Kings" I don't like to watch something where I need to take a shower afterwards to wash it off.
I had an instant aversion when I saw the trailer, something feel very off, couldn't eve watch it
Anyone seen Napoleon or Killers of the Flower Moon? I thought those two seemed like great movies after watching the advertisement.
@Robert: LOL, you are so right!
@mr 2012: I didn't, but someone emailed me and told me. I think I was just in belief at the bad acting that it was hard to even pay attention to the details.
@Anon: Don't waste your time.
@enlightened one: Thanks or the suggestions!! We need some quality movies for a change.
Huh,and what about message of movie? For me it's very possible version ofreality...
@Vipavk0: Yes, I could see these world events happening, but unfortunately they clouded the movie was so much propaganda that the storyline was garbage. I do understand what you are saying and the communication, etc part if very likely to occur at some point sooner rather than later.
Yes, you must see behind the scene, core message is important...

Thank you for sharing!
This movie was based on a novel. I didn't read it, but am guessing that maybe the story lines in the book were explained better than in the movie (?)
@Trish: Books in general are more authentic. They aren't filled with (at least a good book) social justice and other minutia. I'm sure the book was much better!
