Stop the Animal Abuse!

Q. Hello Lynn, as you may well know there are still many cat and animal mutilations taking place. This phenomena appears to move around, you never know where it will turn up next. My question is:- "Do you think its possible to challenge this thing ?" In a sense could I challenge it by posting letters on as many animal mutilation reports as possible stating that I think all the attacks are rubbish news and whoever is doing this is useless and they or it would never dare to come where I live and commit such cruel acts. My idea is to basically demean its actions, to infuriate, and who knows, perhaps to blow its cover. We have got to try something as there has been no answers about this vile phenomena, and no official body seems to be interested or concerned.
A. As I tune into this to get who exactly is doing this, I get that it isn't just one group, but rather several small groups of like minded people.  These small groups look to be of a lower vibration, less evolved, and unable to cherish the beauty of life.  I hear the word sociopath when I focus on their psychological thought processes.  Just as magnets are drawn together, these violent groups look to have formed due to the "like" vibrational people finding each other.

Then I ask how to make people care that look to lack empathy for life.  I get that calling them out and demeaning them only fuels them more.  They take that as attention and "like" that they are getting a rise and enraging people.  In a distorted way these groups "like" that they are able to get a rise out of people and extract energy (and I see an image of an "energy vampire").

Then I get two things that would help to slow and stop this behavior, one is extreme and one is passive.  I first flash to an OLD image of someone stealing bread and then they lose their hand as per their law.  As I see this image I hear the phrase "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you... (and then it fades out)."  Extreme punishment looks to work, but I also see a more "spiritual" answer..

The second, which "feels better" involves fighting this hate group with love. If you would like to post a message, say it in a way such as "I feel so sorry for these people that feel a need to do such a useless act.  I wish for the Universe to heal what is broken within you.  Life, all life, is beautiful, and such a low act carries a heavy, dark, karma that will need to be faced in this life or the next." (or something like that which resonates with you.)  I then see a group holding hands.  They then form a meditation to send healing to these lower vibrational beings.  Put intent for them to feel empathy and view life as life.

And that is all I have for this reading.  Thank you.  Love and light-

Yeah I have just recently had a whole new perspective on life. I realized that all living things are here on this earth together and we shouldn't kill other creatures just because we are stronger or better. One of our biggest lessons in life and reincarnating is to learn unconditional love for all species. Not just human alike. Thats why I don't kill bugs anymore when I see them around my home and I just try to catch them and take them outside the house.

Also Lynn, No Five For Friday today ?

With all due respect to your post, I am all for corporal punishment for any persons responsible for such cruelty.
Our laws are way to lenient already.

Does the retribution of the first variety create negative karma for those who decide on or mete out the punishment?

Curious to know if there's any direct way to 'treat' psychopathy (other than by showing them it it's not in their interest to commit such acts) or are they hard-wired to act that way forever.

@Chandra and Tracy: I think you are right, and that is why the "counteracting part with love" came forward. Severe punishment can work, but may not be in the highest and best good of everyone involved.

@Randy: They have to reach some form of self actualization, and at that point they are able to change...

I have wondered what would be best for all wildlife abuse and I think your second answer is best as very few abuser are caught and in many cases these groups are so strong that government allows this wildlife abuse in the name of money.

I vote the second approach, although when I see big game hunters who do it for the "sport," like the sons of Trump holding up their carcasses with a big smile, I visualize putting them into one of those closed wrestling cages with the animal and them having to fight for THEIR lives with the animal without a gun. That would be a more honest sport, but only if the animal got to mount the hunter's head as a trophy afterwards.

On a lighter note, I would like to suggest everyone here send energy to make the Trump Sanders debate happen. That too would be a real sport!

This gets me so mad, and I don't like to admit it, but I kinda like the first solution, then I realize that I could never actually carry out the punishment myself, and have to fall back on the second one :-)

This whole topic is very difficult. I, too, admit the overwhelming desire to lash out and utterly obliterate people who hurt both defenseless humans and animals. I don't know that I fear the karma in this action, but after many years thinking only purely retaliatory actions would suffice and being at odds with Buddhist teachings, I (finally) began to feel both in my heart (initially) and ultimately in mental thought (rational) patterns why nonviolence only works.

I used to have 11 cats. Where I live has inordinate numbers of feral cats. Very few can stand being around humans. They are, actually, terrified of humans (with good reason), but these few graduated from eating outside to coming inside and being petted (touched) by humans. Many of these cats aged and passed on so the numbers have dwindled considerably from those days, but I noticed that yelling at 11 cats who started fighting around feeding times was sooooooo counterproductive. I learned to counsel, talk softly, and expect them (I was placing intention without knowing what intention was) to become calm and wait for their bowls (we're talking canned food--they always have water and hard food). Well...of course, the latter worked very well. Violence begets violence...although we always feel Draco-justified to Arnold Schwarzenegger an end to a situation we don't like.

Difficult concept--difficult topic.

Robert, I'm reaching for the LIKE-button!
Now that would be my kind of Karma-based reality TV show!
Surely this would just crush-it in the ratings!?
Not like the planet would be short on idiotic contestants either.
Gimme a season of 22 x 1/2-hour episodes, perhaps 3 contests per show, of about 6-7 minutes each to make up the time [minus adds]. They would be doing well to last their segment out without, getting disembowelled/dismembered, or plain eaten alive. The new UFC! >: )

Recently, we had our cats spayed/neutered. They went through an operation to disable them from reproducing. The reason is that if the cats had kittens, we the human carers will be unable to feed the newborns and will be forced to give them away, possibly leave on the streets.

I pray that the decision is for our and the cats' greater good. Being humans, to think we know better, but perhaps are merely being proud.

Also, for a karma-based reality show, I'd prefer to watch a positive version. Good deeds multiplying, touching hearts, changing lives. The real sappy stuff.

For the initial poster, I am going to suggest a possible action "waaaayyyy" outside the box.

Several years ago, purportedly, a Jordanian pilot was shot down by ISIS/ISIL and ultimately burned to death in a cage as punishment. I thought that this had to be an utter impossibility and tracked the video down on Web for viewing. I had already begun to open to a few suggestions that many of the videos were "staged" for Western audiences...and wondered...could this be?

The video was horrific. I was in shock. My Buddhism teaches that, by changing ourselves, we can change 7 generations of our families in the past and in the future. I was so overcome that I began praying=meditating=establishing firm intention/resolve that the pilot (if, indeed, the video was truthful) died instantly and felt no pain. I prayed and prayed that he did not suffer firming believing that I could, as unWestern, unrational, and unscientific as the concept was, influence the past.

Since that time, I've been reading and investigating "New Age" concepts. "Time," apparently, is fluid, multidimensional, and happening instantaneously all at once. Whew! So, why can't we pray=meditate=establish resolve/intention to diminish the suffering of cats mutilated in the past?

Icqgirl2 - You made the right decision in spaying and neutering your cats. There is no negative karma in this. Cats and dogs will reproduce continually unless they are fixed. There are simply not enough homes for all of them and many of them end up on the streets because they've been abandoned or owners simply don't take the time to be responsible for them.

The gestation period for a cat is only 59 days. They can become pregnant again after only three months of having the last litter. When those kittens start reproducing other kittens in such a short period of time, before you know it you have hundreds of kittens. Multiply that by the number of stray or abandoned cats or dogs in your city alone, and then you can see why our shelters are so full of animals.

A responsible owner gets their cat or dog spayed or neutered. You'd be amazed at how many uneducated owners there are that refuse to fix their cat or dog because it's "against God's Will" or because "we don't have the money," (it's not that expensive, and even so there are low cost spay/neuter places nearly everywhere). And you'd be floored to find out how many animals are euthanized per year at county shelters (as in the 1000s) because there are not enough homes, and not enough space to house them at the shelter. You can see first hand how serious our cat or dog overpopulation is by visiting your county shelter and you'll be amazed at how many cats, dogs, kittens and puppies there are that need a home.

Everyone, if you find a stray cat or dog, please give it food and water, you don't know how long its been wandering around alone on the street. Make an attempt to find it's owner. If you are unable to keep it, the kindest thing you can do is bring it to the shelter where it will at least have a place to sleep and food and water. It's owner may have a chance to find them also. And please spay or neuter your cat or dog as soon as they reach 12 weeks of age.

Don't worry, folks. Any stray or feral cat which I adopted was, indeed, taken to the vet for a check-up and spayed/neutered. Unfortunately, I live in an incredibly transient area where, when people decided to return home rather than stay, they left their animals. I know. I don't understand how anyone can simple "leave" a pet, either. For some reason, people think that cats are incredibly self-reliant and can somehow "forage" off an urban environment. I was upset, saddened, and angry to see literally dozens of cats "foraging" out of a dumpster (in an apartment complex where I rented) when I first arrived. I got "thrown out" for feeding the cats outside. The various animal rescue organizations had no room available for anymore animals--they were overwhelmed. Of course, the animals were not spayed/neutered, which is why the area had/has an unbelievable feral cat problem.

An interesting insight is offered in this article concerning our discussion of nuke the perpetrators of cruelty or try another way. Particularly interesting:

"Many people will do all they can to ignite that anger inside us. Every word directed right at our hearts pushing into our deepest wounds. They want us mad as hell because that they understand. Once they have you on the defense, they position themselves well and only work to further you into a state of hate. Once there you are playing their game and it is a game they are well versed in. They brought you down to their level and after a bit of calming down most of us wish we had never let them get to us like that."

Hi Andrew and Buddhist Lady, Just for the record, I wasn't suggesting a TV show and was just being flippant. I think how we treat animals is a measure of our humanity while reminding us of our best nature. I think it is also as important to practice the same regard and appreciation to all our fellow humans and to keep it in balance. It's up to us to lead by good examples that hopefully will eventually steer the rest of the world in the right direction.

as for a video game...

Hi Robert, of course we knew that, and was only running with the gag and taking it to the extreme. As for the video game, please have YOUR people call MY people and talk percentages?

icqgirl, I understand the sentiment. In Australia where I live, we are bombarded with DIY/Home renovation shows in the last few years. I've no idea if this niche of reality TV is popular in other countries or not? Anyhoo, often the producers of these shows receive genuine correspondence from people who know families who have lost a mother/father, or are sick with cancer etc, and are under the pump financially with mortgage payments etc, and whose houses need maintenance, but are too proud to ask for assistance.
So the producers assemble teams to not only do maintenance work, but effectively gut the houses and rebuild from scratch, as well as re-landscape the gardens. And the time frame is usually 7 days, whilst the family is sent "on holiday", and have no idea what is going on back at their homes. Once they return to see what is a new house, they often just lose-it and go to pieces on camera with humility. The builders/tradesmen doing this work all donate the fittings and materials, as well as their labour involved, at no charge. Of course their businesses get a solid "plug" during the broadcast as compensation. And the final scene of the episode always concludes with the families hugging all the workman with gratitude and tears streaming, for their time and effort. Warm fuzzies all around - yay!
Now that is the only genuine TV that brings me to tears as well.

But I digress; only the lowest of the low abuse animals.
I'm certainly not beyond acting on the animals behalf if I ever saw such behaviour first hand... I'd be happy to play the Devil's Karmic advocate in this situation.

I too have been struggling with the abuse of the earth and especially the wild animals. The few of the elite it seems on top are pulling all the strings. These hunters that hunt for pleasure and others are taking wildlife away from the rest of us. Seems the government sides with them regardless of majority of people's opinion. I see on Social media it really makes a lot of people angry. I know a lot of this is our own karma to work through. I would be interested in other people's view on best type of meditation or pray to transmute this energy into a better world where we can see and have a few more wild animals rather than all for the elite with money to destroy.
